How long have you been in business?
44 yrs, A NC licensed landscape contractor since 1982.
What is your primary product or service?
Landscape design and build
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Family has been in this line of business for three generations. Although I have owned several business throughout my career, my current business, Marshall C. Garland, incorporated in 1985 allows me to use all of the skills that I have developed over the past 40 plus years. Helping my dad and uncle with digging plants, their landscape projects and cooking whole hogs (!) got me started...a short stint in the corporate world moved me into the business of building/ painting custom Harleys which added more mechanical/welding background on top of years of racing go carts, motorcycles, drag racing and finally a decade of road racing with the SCCA taught me a multitudes of skills that all translate into the custom landscape construction work that Marshall C. Garland, inc. excels at. Years spend grading, trucking, doing layout, installing storm sewers, etc. in the commercial grading/contracting adds another dimension to the job skills we offer.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Marshall C. Garland, Inc. is not a "mow and blow" type of landscape company. We stay focused on each customer by doing one job at a time, controlling all phases of a turnkey installation for each client. This attention to detail creates the best installation and allows me to guarantee all work without question. This attention to design and the detail built into each job has resulted in many awards including the highest landscape award in the state along with multiple magazine features. The cumulative skills of mine added to the those of my employees allow MCG, inc. to tackle many jobs that are outside of the capabilities of most landscape companies without sub-contracting work out...which is where many problems begin....problems that may not show up for years.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
No, I have had as many as 32 employees in the past, but have found that my current size is most conducive to eliminating returns to correct problems.

I do not maintain a public office.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash or checks... 20% at signing of contract, with timely draws as required by weather or other factors beyond my control.

Buncombe and surrounding counties
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Corporation is wholly owned by Marshall and Susan Garland. Our son Natt runs the field operations and is onsite daily during jobs.
What are your hours of operation?
Weather permitting... Men start At 8:00 and work until 5:00-6:00 depending on need. Work week is Monday thru Thursday, with Friday open as/if needed.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
You did what you said you would do.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
